Intimate Partner Violence is so much more than a black eye and so much more pervasive and complex than most understand. At the expense of the 3 to 4 women that are murdered every day by their partners, and the millions of victims who face homelessness, long-term health issues, and ongoing danger, two prevailing myths abound: that domestic violence isn’t that bad, and that “it would never happen to me.” This workshop will unpack the dynamics of IPV, namely coercive controlling tactics; common victim reactions and behaviors; safety and intervention strategies; and the many ways in which healthcare, criminal and civil justice, and other systems repeatedly fail victims/survivors, particularly those who are Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color, and LGBTQIA+.
