Racism, not race, is a fundamental cause of racial health inequities. Health professionals have unique opportunities to address the harms of structural racism but to address racial health disparities, they must first “learn about, understand, and accept the U.S.’s racist roots.” For this lecture, Dr. Rachel R. Hardeman (bio), the Blue Cross Endowed Professor in Health and Racial Equity at the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health, will identify and describe how structural racism affects health outcomes, apply an antiracism framework to the health field, and evaluate and incorporate the values of equity and inclusion in professional practices.
