Description and Objectives

This presentation will unpack the ways in which historical, intergenerational and social trauma shows up in ourselves and our clients. During this training, attendees will learn why social and historical stressors are a type of trauma, as well as the impact on one’s life. Strategies for identifying the impacts and interventions for supporting our clients will be explored in depth. Additionally, participants will develop increased capacity to have difficult conversations across difference.

Upon completing the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Self identify their own agent and target memberships through the ADDRESING model
  • Identify 3-5 stressors that contribute to the chronic stress related to having a target membership
  • Identify at least 3 indicators of social or historical trauma
  • Learn 3-5 strategies for effectively supporting clients to renegotiate trauma related to social or historical traumatic events
