Description and Objectives
This presentation explores the concept of internalized oppression. Participants will first learn how oppressive constructs become internalized. They then will learn common internalized attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that come from oppressive roots. Additionally, they will learn interventions that support a client to externalize these damaging constructs so that a client can have more agency to live a more complete and full life.
Upon completing the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Define internalized oppression
- Understand the impacts of internalized oppression
- Recognize common beliefs, attitudes and behaviors associated with internalized oppression
- Learn at least three techniques for externalizing oppressive beliefs
