Description and Objectives
Medication non-adherence is widely recognized as a long-standing problem occurring in the prescription-taking population. The importance of addressing non-adherence is more important than ever as the impact has been felt in rising hospitalization rates, increasing healthcare costs, and worsening patient outcomes. Motivational Interviewing, a person-centered form of guided dialogue is a well-supported intervention that has helped both prescribing and non-prescribing practitioners to address challenges around medication non-adherence and broader medication management. This webinar will cover how principles and strategies of motivational interviewing are employed to resolve medication non-adherence. The workshop will review the most recent literature on MI and medication management and demonstrate how to utilize MI strategies with diverse clients in various settings along with case illustrations to improve medication adherence. Standardized tools and measures to preemptively address medication non-adherence will also be presented.
By attending, participants will better
- understand the role and function of motivational interviewing (MI) in medication adherence
- understand the effective use of MI strategies in addressing medication non-adherence
- identify tools and measures to help address medication adherence
