A Healing Workshop with Dr. Joy DeGruy

In the past few years, there have been more and more discussions about the need for healing from racial trauma. This has been particularly true as Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) have suffered greatly through recent, multiple pandemics. Social workers and practitioners of color, particular Black clinicians, have found themselves asking, “How can I heal myself and best support others in their journey of healing?”

This workshop will guide participants through critically evaluating history and its relation to trauma and culture within BIPOC communities today. Dr. DeGruy shares her strategic use of virtues and racial socialization, the philosophical aspects of cultural difference, and the relational approach for healing when working with BIPOC individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. Dr. DeGruy has the keen ability to meet her audience where they are and inspire them be a participant and a partner in social justice on the path to healing. Do not miss this powerful opportunity to sit, learn, and grow!

Any person working with communities of color, particularly Black individuals and families, will gain strategies for how to do so from a healing lens.
